EN 9 sheets and plates are produced from medium carbon steel containing a typical chemical content of 0.50–0.60% carbon, 0.60–0.90% manganese, and minimal contents of silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. This alloy has a good combination of hardness and strength with modest ductility. EN 9 has tensile strength ranging from 600–800 MPa and can be enhanced further through processes like hardening and tempering. EN 9’s mechanical properties make it appropriate for use in applications that demand high surface hardness, wear resistance, and strength with maintenance of machinability.
